Fixit Collective Montclair
Overview
The Montclair Fixit Collective is a virtual (online) and monthly (real/physical) Meetup group in Montclair, NJ established to connect those who have items in need of repair to those locally with the ability to repair them. Our goal is to minimize the throw away and replace culture, and in the process educate our friends and neighbors with repair skills.
We value and hope to share functionality, simplicity, and ingenuity. By fixing, we add personal stories to our tools, devices, and conveniences. We also learn, help each other, and come together to build a resilient community.
We have three primary goals, 1) fix your things, 2) educate you on ways to repair things yourself (teach a man to fish), and 3) build community and relationships.

How it Works
If you have something in need of repair:
Post on the Montclair Fixit Collective Facebook Group. In that post include photo(s), a description of the problem, and any other details that will help us evaluate it and help you fix it. (Note: Please see the Montclair Fixit Collective FAQ for a list of things we generally don’t fix.)
The fixers on the group will comment on the repair needs and we will let you know if we can help. We will also let you know if it can be done ad hoc or if it is something you should bring to our monthly Meetup.
The Montclair Fixit Collective will meet the third Thursday of each month (starting January 2016) from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM to perform repairs, present repair tips, and socialize. We encourage people to bring in their items early, so we can devote the most time to the item. Subsequently, if you arrive in the middle of a fix, we’ll try to accommodate you as best as we can.
If you have mad skilz, and are able to help repair things and educate others:
Join the Montclair Fixit Collective Facebook Group and follow the posts on the group. Make plans to attend the monthly Meetup (see above). Please also contact Jon Bonesteel (group admin) to discuss your skills and availability to help repair items in between our monthly Meetup.
What Else?
The group admins will post relevant stories and tutorials on repair in the Facebook group. We encourage respectful discussion of repairs and reuse in the group.

Schedule
We meet the third Thursday of every month, beginning in January 2016. The first Meetup will be at the HackNCraftNJ Makerspace at 7:00PM. We will stay until about 10:00 PM. Please be sure to sign up on our Meetup Event page for the meeting.
